What is the vision of your organisation? More importantly, how is that vision used? How is it brought to life and what benefit does it bring?
Arguably, the vision for an organisation is one of the most important strategic elements to be developed. It acts as a destination, a goal and an aspiration which everyone within the organisation should understand and be working towards. It enables the question to be asked; ‘Is what I am doing right now helping to achieve our vision?’
There is an anecdote which is reputed to have occurred in the 1960’s when President Nixon was touring NASA. During his visit, he allegedly passed a janitor sweeping a corridor and asked him what he did. ‘I’m helping put a man on the moon.’ The janitor said. Whether the story is true or not, this is a fantastic example of an incredible shared vision which drove ordinary people to achieve extraordinary results.
