That's what initial findings from recent online survey highlights.

10.02.08

The Beech Consultancy in association with the Association for Coaching are asking a series of questions via an online survey to over 3000 individuals in both the private and the public sector across three groups:

1.       HR and L&D professionals
2.       Key decision makers outside of HR, and
3.       Coaches

For each response we receive, we are donating 5 minutes of our time to the local community as part of our CSR strategy.

We will be producing a white paper outlining all the results from the survey. The paper will look to answer the following questions:

What is coaching and how does it differ from mentoring?
What are the challenges of engaging with coaching?
How is coaching being used?
How is coaching being bought?
Who engages in coaching?
How does it deliver return on investment?

A few snapshot results from the survey to date

  • Almost 70% of organisations engage in coaching
  • 74% of these organisations believe coaching will increase in the next 12 months
  • However, a large percentage still feel there is a blurred understanding between coaching and mentoring with 25% of HR professionals being challenged by understanding what coaching is and 28% being challenged by how coaching increases return on investment (ROI)
  • 30% of decision makers outside HR are keen to find out how coaching can affect their business and increase performance
  • 41% of HR professionals believe that increased understanding of coaching with organisations will have the greatest impact in the coaching world in the next 2 years and 22% cited an increase in the profile of coaching
  • Coaches cited the same reasons but 24% also stated regulation of the coaching industry and 20% cited accreditation of coaches

The white paper will be available on the 22nd February 2008.
